The Tilted Ice Giant
Uranus is unique among the planets because it rotates on its side, with an axial tilt of about 98 degrees. This extreme tilt causes Uranus to experience some of the most dramatic seasons in the Solar System, with each pole receiving decades of continuous sunlight followed by decades of darkness.
Unlike Jupiter and Saturn, Uranus is classified as an ice giant due to its composition of water, methane, and ammonia ices. Methane in the atmosphere absorbs red light, giving Uranus its pale blue-green color.
Uranus has a faint ring system and at least 27 known moons, many named after characters from the works of William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope.
