Pyramid of the Sun

Pyramid of the Sun

The Pyramid of the Sun is a huge megalithic structure that was seemingly to many as a place of ritual and prayer. The pyramid was built by the Teotihuacans, and was created on a natural spring inside of the pyramid. Speculation suggests that the Teotihuacans built the pyramid on the spring because they thought it was sacred and important from the gods. Little is known about the the Teotihuacans, but we do know that at its peak, the population of the Pyramid of the Sun was 150,000.

The dimensions of the pyramid are very big, it goes up 216 feet and is 720 feet by 760 feet at the base. The material that was used was red coarse volcanic rock and hewed tezontle to create the enormous structure. It was built in an estimated 100 CE and efforts of different groups have tried to uncover its secrets by attempts of restoration and excavation. Its rectangular build is very similar to the various pyramids that are around the world, such as India, Cambodia, and Egypt, and in terms of surface area, is the largest pyramid in the world.
