This pyramid is the only proof that the Teotihuacan civilization even existed. Archaeologists haven't even found burial sites for proof, and thus Archaeologists are still trying to find anything that can prove their extensive and great society. Due to this structure being so big, many believe that the person that directed the construction and authorized it probably had a large degree of power and influence. How Nawa Sugiyama, an anthropologist at the Univeristy of California in Riverside put it,"You don't get that from nothing."
It is believed to be created in the first century, around the time that the Temple of the Feathered Serpent was constructed. The empire that was during that time was large and wide, and they traded with many civilizations throughout the outskirts of their empire. Their common language isn't known and the name Teotihuacan was created by the Aztecs.
