Case Study: Camp Boneyard 2
Overview
Camp Boneyard is an annual virtual multimedia festival presented by underscord. Featuring sets from over 70 unique performers each year over a span of 2 days, Camp Boneyard is one of the largest virtual events in the underground.
For Camp Boneyard 2, I collaborated with underscord event staff on worldbuilding, visual direction, social media marketing, technical maintenance, and artist relations. I delegated tasks to each team member, monitored their progress, and assisted in whatever was needed. I used tools such as Google Sheets, Pixlr, DaVinci Resolve, Tiltify, and Teespring throughout the project to accomplish my goals.
Concept & Planning
Camp Boneyard has a very unique structure that relates to its storyline. The festival is split into 7 different themed sections called "Stages" that are inspired by the 5 Stages of Grief. Each year, they are adapted to fit the part of the storyline that's covered. Performers are assigned to create DJ sets revolving around a specific stage. Camp Boneyard's overarching storyline is inspired by underscores' own fictional world in her EP boneyard aka fearmonger, which takes place in the Californian Salton Sea.
In Camp Boneyard 2, the Salton Sea expands and rapidly engulfs the Earth, threatening the lives of billions of people across the world. The Sea absorbs the emotions of the people it consumes, and each performer depicts the stages of emotions experienced.
Since the festival benefits different nonprofits each year, we paid attention to the most important social issues of the year and invited community members to select charities they wished to fundraise for. The top voted charities were Trans Lifeline and the Center for Reproductive Rights, which we donated all stream proceeds to, while all merch proceeds went to Sealife Trust.
Results
Thanks to the posts and our collective effort, we received 158 performer signups for Camp Boneyard 2! We reached around 200 people viewing the stream at a time and raised over $4,600 for Trans Lifeline and the Center for Reproductive Rights in total.
