The Start of Basketball
The Start of Basketball: Basketball was invented by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith in December 1891 at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith was tasked with creating a new indoor sport that would be less injury-prone than football and keep athletes active during the winter months.
The Start of the NBA: Early leagues: The first professional leagues formed in the late 1890s, but it was the merger of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949 that created the modern National Basketball Association (NBA).
